Here's the PRINTED Flyers!

Ben left me a stash of flyers on my desk today, hot from the press in Brighton. They look perfect, colour is bright and finish is flawless. Posters coming from Germany, due to arrive in Leeds on Friday.
Excuse the glare on the image, better shots to come.

Funk You! - Finals

Its been an endless task of tweaks and additional drink offers, but finally here's the completed A2 Poster and double-sided A6 Flyer!
(More sponsors are yet to be added, waiting on confirmation)

Poster

Flyer - Front/Back

Funk You! - Progress

I chose to use the seated woman illustration, here's an initial layout of the poster.
Now all is left is to create the work digitally, with a few tweaks concerning type/layout and colour.

Funk You! - Progress

I enlisted the help of my girlfriends skills, we discussed and planned different positions of a woman figure to be used in the flyer. Here are the illustrations which I then developed digitally.
All hand-generated illustrations below are credit to Lucy Hawkins.

Funk You! - Progress

Here's my most recent designs for Funk You!

Funk You!

So, 'Let it all Hang Out' is now named; 'Funk You!'. A good name change I agree, but this means changing my design work abit.. I had a good chat with Ben about the style he'd like for the poster/flyer and he gave me a few examples to look at:

100% Dynamite

Posters are designed with 'tacky' in mind, but, it works! they look fun and have an aged look, like they're straight outta the 70s. This of course matches that funk/soul music style of the night.

Sci-Fi Convention - Dissertation Research

A good turn out today at the sci-fi convention, got some good shots and everyone there was real nice, most of the comics/cards/figures were going for hundreds of pounds! This is great, nexty time (oct 24th) I plan to interview/questionnaire stall holders and participants of the event about their collections and topics/quieries I will develop in the time before. Here's a few shots of today, I also bought a few comics, one of them being the no.1 Transformers 3D! amazing print inside to be blogged shortly.

Let it all hang out - Progress.

Here's some development so far on the imagery for the flyer and poster design for 'Let It All Hang Out'.
I seem to have dedicated myself to this one image of a front-facing woman..however I feel it's not really giving a correct portrayal of the night it's advertising.. hmm.
Trying to keep colour numbers down to a minimum, I'm still at the early stages with this project.

Cutty Sark - Design Brief

A brief I intend to take part in after I have produced the flyer and poster for 'Let It All Hang Out'.

Clicky.

Let it all hang out?

A good friend of mine and fellow housemate Ben, has asked me to design a flyer and poster for his upcoming dub/funk/soul night, held at Leeds' Northern Monkey. He wants something memorable and bold, with suggestive use of a female as part of the imagery and minimal colours to keep costs down, also the job has to be done quick, with a mon/tues deadline (3-4 days).
This is great as its a real challenge, here's some initial ideas concerning the imagery and composition.

John Slade - Death by Pencils

Came across this tee the other day, designed by John Slade, I love it. It has a good use of perception and an extra element that interacts the design with the person wearing the shirt.

Jared Nickerson

Super precise and detailed illustration from Jared Nickerson, his commitment and the time he dedicates to his work is a real inspiration for me.

Web Intro

Here's the intro for Bared Teeth. It's short and sweet with no sound as of yet (still trying to track down an icy breath sfx). Created in Adobe After Effects.

I did the animation using only jpeg image frames, around 11 different frames where used and of course at 24fps the outcome is not smooth. However, this was intentional, I like the jagged-ness of the jaws opening and feel it fits the name and logo itself perfectly.

Web Intro

Here's the plans for the animated intro page to my website (which doesn't exist yet). I want something short, around 4 seconds, which simply introduces the visitor to the site, with a bit of class.

(note, the colours will be inverted from these plans).

KEV GREY

An Illustrator/Designer of which I have huge admiration for, his work is so simple yet this is key, you can easily recognize his style. Hailing from Leeds and resident DJ of The Wet Spot burlesque night, I intend to compose my portfolio and contact him for some feedback/advice in the industry.
Here's some of his work...
