John Slade - Death by Pencils

Came across this tee the other day, designed by John Slade, I love it. It has a good use of perception and an extra element that interacts the design with the person wearing the shirt.

Jared Nickerson

Super precise and detailed illustration from Jared Nickerson, his commitment and the time he dedicates to his work is a real inspiration for me.

Web Intro

Here's the intro for Bared Teeth. It's short and sweet with no sound as of yet (still trying to track down an icy breath sfx). Created in Adobe After Effects.

I did the animation using only jpeg image frames, around 11 different frames where used and of course at 24fps the outcome is not smooth. However, this was intentional, I like the jagged-ness of the jaws opening and feel it fits the name and logo itself perfectly.

Web Intro

Here's the plans for the animated intro page to my website (which doesn't exist yet). I want something short, around 4 seconds, which simply introduces the visitor to the site, with a bit of class.

(note, the colours will be inverted from these plans).

KEV GREY

An Illustrator/Designer of which I have huge admiration for, his work is so simple yet this is key, you can easily recognize his style. Hailing from Leeds and resident DJ of The Wet Spot burlesque night, I intend to compose my portfolio and contact him for some feedback/advice in the industry.
Here's some of his work...

Well Designed Flyers

Here are some flyers which I have seen recently. They all impressed me through use of good design and concept.

Visually pleasing web background I stumbled upon..

Don't Panic - 'Social'. Final

Here's my final design for the competition. I decided to go with a dark green backing as the blue was too related to water and with these animals living in woods/grassland, green was the obvious choice.
Titled 'Social Circle', I will submit on the 1st September and the voting will last for 2 weeks.

Don't Panic - 'Social'. Progress

Here's the progress I'm making on the poster design. I decided to go for a promenent and colourful style, which keeps the message clear and simple; a social circle.

Now I'm deciding on background colour, here are the final 4 variants.

Don't Panic - 'Social'

The recent Don't Panic; Design the Poster competition is based on the word 'Social'. Here's the initial design for my entry, it's the social circle of the woods; a bear, wolf, badger and fox puttin' hands in!

Sci-Fi, Comic & Card Fair Flyer - Complete

Sci-Fi, Comic & Card Fair Flyer.

I plan to attend this event as part of my dissertation research, the place will be full of merchandise from all different medias (tv, film, comic, music), and the people there will be good to interview or hand questionnaires to.

I'm also re-designing the flyer just to further my portfolio.

Here's my design, still containing all of the original copy. I plan to produce the flyer digitally, A5 in size.

Stephen Kelleher / Frankenstyles

Stephen Kelleher, working name; Frankenstyles, has a illustrative style that really surpasses me, his work is so varied but consistantly strong. I like his use of textures, such as the wood effect fill here.

Cheese Academy!

Here's a few hours work (including some work from a previous project). I feel this is a style that suits me better. It's minimal, clean, colourful and with a hint of pattern design. Influenced from Japanese design and character design.
I will look into printing this design to a t-shirt this week, I'v found some iron-on transfer paper real cheap.. keep checkin' here, to see how it goes.

Woodland Animals

Here's the final outcome. I decided to get rid of the outline as It over compicated the image and now it looks much cleaner and composed. However, I don't feel this is my illustrative style, it's too close to semi-realism, none of my influence is of that.

Variants

Here are some variants of the final image, I have played around with colour schemes and outlines to create different images...However I don't think any of these are good enough.

edit

Re-drawn most of the image and added/taken away detail, now to draw digitally...think the image will suit a mono/duotone colour scheme.

update

I have abandoned the octopus work, just didint feel it was going anywhere and was developing into a style that wasnt me.. I might and probably will come back to it in the near future however. Anyway, on to something new, fresh outta the scanner; Here's a layout for a t-shirt design I plan to create mainly in illustrator.
